Benefits of the Las Vegas Scholars Program include:

  • Financial Support: Up to $14,300 annual scholarship per student for up to 5 years
  • Cohorts: Las Vegas Scholar participants will be a part of a small cohort of peers and will have opportunities to engage in research with faculty and to connect with industry professionals.
  • Summer Bridge Program: Participants will attend a 1-month summer bridge program just prior to Fall semester. During this time, students will adjust to college life, meet new friends, learn about the department and the campus, and earn 3-6 college credits towards their university degree.
  • Research Opportunities: Participate in research with Engineering and Education faculty; build knowledge in Engineering, while documenting your story as a Electrical or Computer Engineering student to inspire other students like you to follow in your footsteps.
  • Workshops & Talks: Learn to develop an academic identity as an Engineer, explore Engineering careers, network with Engineering students, faculty and professors, and learn how to thrive and succeed.
  • Faculty and Peer Mentoring: Establish a supportive relationship with a faculty mentor who can guide your success. Build an academic community/supportive network of peers in the program, in your department, and across campus.
  • Industry Connections: Participate in summer internships, and participate in industry-sponsored senior design project activities.
  • Family Engagement: The program includes a family engagement component in order to:
    • Build students’ academic success on their families’ cultural wealth; and,
    • To ensure that families are supported in scaffolding for students’ degree completion (e.g., dedicate the time necessary for students to study for an exams)
    • Note that "families" is defined broadly and includes traditional and non-traditional definitions.
  • Family Orientation: Invite your family members to attend faculty and staff-led workshops to learn more about what it takes to succeed in college (academic expectations), costs of attending/ways to pay for college (financial literacy), and about available resources on campus and how to access them.
